Toxin such as Botox®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are commonly used to relax muscles in the treated areas to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The onset is 3-7 days, maximum results will be seen at 14 days and last 3-4 months.
Wrinkle relaxers are injectable prescription medications made of the active ingredient Botulinum Toxin Type A. They work by temporarily blocking the chemical communication between the nerve and the muscles that cause contractions. Wrinkles and fine lines are caused by repetitive muscle contractions, so when we inject these substances, they go away temporarily or get much better over time. Additionally, they prevent new wrinkles from forming.
Results will appear within 3-7 days of injection, and full effect will occur at two weeks. This is why we will schedule your follow-up appointment between 14-21 days.
One treatment every 3-5 months is the average. At Glowtox, we always see our patients for a follow up 2 weeks after injection to make sure results are flawless and do any necessary touch ups.
Dermal fillers (like Juvéderm® and Restylane®) and injectable wrinkle relaxers (like Botox® and Dysport®) work differently to correct signs of aging. Fillers replace volume and correct symmetry and proportion, basically they fill things. On the other hand, injectable wrinkle relaxers relax facial muscles that cause wrinkles through repetitive movements like furrowing or raising the eyebrows, frowning, and smiling.
After your appointment, you might notice redness and swelling around the injection sites which should dissipate within minutes to an hour. The most common side effect after injection is a mild headache that may last a few hours. Please call our office if you notice other concerning effects after your treatment.
