Kybella®

double chin removal | Glowtox in NYC, NY

Kybella® (deoxycholic acid) is an injectable that treats submental fullness, or in other words, “double chin.” If you can pinch it, you can treat it. Kybella® is a non-invasive alternative to liposuction for submental fullness, and the results are permanent. Results will reveal a sleeker, more defined jawline and enhanced profile.

Kybella® targets fat storage, destroying the fat cell membrane, which kills the cell and eliminates them through the body’s lymphatic system. Once the fat cells have been destroyed, they will not return to the treatment site. Kybella® is a non-invasive contouring treatment that generally requires 1-4 sessions. Kybella® does cause swelling which can lead to some downtime.

FAQs

Deoxycholic acid (Kybella®) targets fat storage and is injected into the subcutaneous fat layer. Kybella® will destroy fat cell membranes and in time, the cells will die, and the body will eliminate the dead fat cells through the lymphatic system. Over the next few months, you will notice a significant difference at the treatment site.

Results will gradually be revealed from 4 weeks to three months after treatment. If your injector suggests a series of treatments, they will start the next treatment 4-6 weeks after the last session.

Once the deoxycholic acid kills the fat cells, they cannot return to the treatment area. Therefore, the results of Kybella® are permanent.

Treatment sessions vary depending on the amount of fat in the area and the surface area we are treating. Generally, 1-4 sessions are required every 4-6 weeks. Your injector will advise you on a course of treatment during your consultation.

Kybella® is a non-invasive treatment. However, the treatment area will swell significantly. Swelling can be managed well with ice. To decrease swelling, prepare to avoid cardio for the first 24 hours post-treatment. At Glowtox, this is mostly a fall and winter procedure, as you may want to wear a scarf to conceal your swelling for a week to 10 days. You should schedule your Kybella® treatment at least six weeks prior to any major social engagements.
